SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS

Founders’ Scholarship competition is an adult program, to be used solely by IBEW members. It is NOT for the children of members.

The Ron Callaghn Memorial Scholarship is open to all children and grandchildren of local 230 members.

Application form #EMP5391 for the Federal Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Appliance Repair, Motor Winder, Electronic Technician and Electrical apprentices working at completing their first and second year of apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship Completion Grant form #EMP5482 is a $2,000 taxable grant provided by the Federal Government for Apprentices who have obtained their Journeyman status in a "Red Seal" Inter-provincial Trade (same as noted above).

Union Benefits provide Scholarship Opportunites to union family members around North America.

The Provincial Apprenticeship Training Tax Credit should be filed by Apprentices completing their Third and/or Fourth year of their Apprenticeship Technical Training.


THE WESTERN JOINT ELECTRICAL TRAINING SOCIETY

The Western-JETS was formed in 1969 with the purpose to assist, develop and foster Apprenticeship and further Training of Journeyman and women in the Electrical Industry.

Please sign up at your Union Hall for any course that you wish to take by clicking on the course and emailing the office, once we have the required number of members for the course the WJETS will put it on.

The WJETS offers to pay for any upgrading course that is related to the electrical industry, which is put on by any other training institute, based on criteria. Prior approval must be obtained from the Local's Training Director and/or the WJETS Training Coordinator.

Board of Directors

The six Directors of the Board of the Western JETS consists of appointed members from the IBEW Locals 230, 993 & 1003, and three members appointed by the Electrical Contractors Association of BC from each of the local areas. The Board of Directors meet regularly to discuss training and other related matters.

Each year the Board vets all union apprentices to determine the top union apprentice overall and for each area, the top apprentices receive the Golden Pliers Award and the overall receives the Bill A Wodill Award.
